Bio

Mrs. Vickous graduated from Western Kentucky University with an Associate Degree in Nursing in 1980, a Baccalaureate in Nursing in 2005 and a Master’s Degree in Nursing in 2008. She is currently enrolled in the Doctorate of Educational Leadership at Western Kentucky University.

Her teaching experience started with an instructor position in the Western Kentucky University Associate Degree Nursing program in 2007. Since 2009, she has served as a nursing instructor for the Baccalaureate Nursing undergraduate program. Teaching experience includes Fundamentals of Nursing, Transcultural Nursing, Medical – Surgical Nursing I and II, and clinical and practicum experiences.

Her nursing practice experiences include 27 years in emergency department, level one post-anesthesia care unit, outpatient services, medical-surgical patient care and staff development. She continues to work PRN as a Registered Nurse in the community. Her current instructor and provider certifications include American Heart Association’s Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support and Pediatric Advanced Life Support, and provider status in the Neonatal Resuscitation Program. Additionally, she holds provider and instructor status for the Trauma Nurses Core Curriculum Emergency Nurses Association program.

Mrs. Vickous is a member of the American and Kentucky Nurses Associations, Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Society, the Emergency Nurses Association, National Nursing Staff Development Organization and American Public Health Association. Her research interests include evaluation of public and patient safety program outcomes, rural health and safety, organizational communication, coaching and nursing leadership, and cultural sensitivity and intercultural competence.
